SSTR & PO
Organizations involved in various types of conflict prevention, peacebuilding, and SSTR & PO (security, stabilization, transition, and reconstruction and peace operations) often operate almost exclusively within their own, internal organizational structure and hierarchy. The result is a "stovepiping" effect that can undermine the effectiveness of peace operations by making it difficult for governmental and nongovernmental as well as military and civilian organizations to identify and take advantage of cooperative opportunities. In order to help overcome this problem, the Beyond Intractability "Stovepipe Browser" continually indexes the websites of organizations engaged in peace-related operations to identify Web pages from organizations in the various different "stovepipes" that seem to address similar issues. The result is an initial collection of continually updated links to information about the ways in which different organizations address 27 key conflict topics. The Stovepipe Browser also includes a Special Search, which returns results from among the websites of these specially-selected organizations.
